The Mandarin’s Newmarket Racecard for Friday 9th October 2021

Godolphin Under Starters Orders Maiden Stakes 1.15
Probably best to side with in-form trainer William Haggas for the opener as his Kingman filly steps foot onto the track for the first time. Obvious dangers would be stablemate Amanzoe, and Kirilenko, running in the Cheveley Paerk Stud silks from Sir Michael Stoute’s Bury Road base, but Queenlet has stable no. 1 jockey aboard, Tom Marquand, and that’s notable

Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Cornwallis Stakes (Group 3) 1.50
Twilight Jet
Fifth in the Middle Park Stakes here last month but that Group 1 was a red hot affair so this looks a whole lot easier. He took a keen hold in the Middle Park, and ridden with more restraint under Leigh Roche back on the Rowley Mile course he could get into the mix with something held in reserve

Godolphin Lifetime Care Oh So Sharp Stakes (Group 3) 2.25
Perfect News (nb)
William Haggas, the trainer with the Midas touch at present, should hold the key to this with Perfect News, assuming she can cope with more ease in the ground. A course and distance winner here in a nursery handicap just two weeks ago, this Frankel filly is clearly going the right way, and should go close

Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes (Group 2) 3.00
Al Suhail
Charlie Appleby has hardly put a foot wrong this term, and can send out the highly rated Al Suhail to land this Group 2 prize. He’s got course form here, and could get the better of stablemate D’bai from their last clash at Newbury. William Buick keeps faith with him, and he’s the one to follow

bet365 Fillies’ Mile (Group 1) 3.35
Wild Beauty
We’ll chance our arm with Charlie Appleby’s Frankel filly, despite there being almost universal support for John & Thady Gosden’s Inspiral, another exciting filly from that great Supersire. Inspiral has been exclusively kept to a quicker surface, but Wild Beauty will be ready for this deeper cut, and, if fully recovered from her Grade 1 victory at Woodbine in the Natalma Stakes, has to have a great chance. Solid each way claims at a decent price

bet365 Old Rowley Mile Handicap 4.10
A typically competitive Rowley Mile handicap, with a few likely candidates, but Roger Varian’s Moshaawer looks the one to follow with a decent record so far on a variety of surfaces. Jim Crowley takes over the reins, and there’s no better pair of hands to steer the selection around here. Boltaway, running in the Juddmonte silks, looks the main threat, along with Charlie Appleby’s Siskany

Newmarket Pony Academy Pride Stakes (Group 3) 4.40
Lights On (nap)
She cost a pretty penny, but looks a filly right out of the top drawer, and could not be under better guidance than with the multiple classic winning trainer, Sir Michael Stoute. Her best form is on ground with a little cut, so conditions should be perfect, and she’s respected
