The Mandarin’s Saturday Selections from Warwick & Kempton Park

Wigley Group Hampton Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) 1.50
Threeunderthrufive (nap)
One of the best novice chasers either side of the Irish Sea, and easy to back after three straight wins this term. He goes on any ground, and Adrian Heskin knows how to get him over the line, so should confirm his ability for the Champion Trainer in his quest for the four-timer

Ballymore Leamington Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) 2.25
The chance is taken on Evan Williams’ Westerner gelding, who certainly won’t mind the soft going around Warwick. He arrives here after a 4 length victory at Ffos Las earlier in the month, and if able to make a quick turnaround is fully deserving of lining up in this grade. A solid each way pick at an attractive price, in the mix

Agetur UK Ltd Classic Handicap Chase (Grade 3) 3.00
Corach Rambler
Lucinda Russell’s unexposed chaser could be the one to follow here. He’s certainly in a sweet spot after wins at Aintree and Cheltenham before the Christmas break, and has form on soft, so it’s just whether he can see out this marathon trip. Interesting after just three starts over fences, and thereabouts

Kempton Park

Coral Silviniaco Conti Chase (Grade 2) 2.05
Eldorado Allen
A great race in store, despite the field of just four, but preference is for Colin Tizzard’s grey, who gave hope in his two starts this term that the Dorset handler has returned to some sort of form. Successful in the Grade 2 Haldon Cup Handicap on his seasonal reappearance, he went on to finish a creditable third behind the smart First Flow in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon, and can build on that with a win here

Coral Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle (Listed) 2.40
Gelino Bello (nb)
After two solid runners-up places at Cheltenham before Christmas, both behind the same rival, returning to a flatter track round Kempton Park may well repeat his Autumn victory around Aintree. Paul Nicholls has his string in fine fettle, and with Harry Cobden taking his rides here on Saturday, rather than at Warwick, there’s lots to like about his chances
