The Mandarin’s Sunday Selections from ParisLongchamp & Naas

ParisLongchamp

de la Seine Stakes (Listed) 12.58
La Parisienne
It may pay to side with Carlos and Yann’s La Parisienne for the first of the Black Type contests on French Guineas day. Winning with plenty in hand at Saint-Cloud, there’s surely more to come returned to this trip. She looks a decent prospect and can continue to progress

Emirates Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Group 1) 2.15
Cachet
It’s hard to get away from the appeal of Cachet, after her impressive win in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. She stole a march on her rivals there, prevailing by a neck in an all out finish, but this is a more forgiving track so if she gets to the head of affairs once more could be hard to reel in. A fantastic renewal in store, with Aidan O’Brien’s Toy and Roger Charlton’s Jumbly other notable raiders, but Cachet has done it at this level already, so is the one to beat

Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Group 1) 2.55
Modern Games
it could be a good day for the raiding party if Charlie Appleby walks away with the big one, especially after Cachet is expected to put in another good run in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches. He’s been aimed at this race and. with the Moulton Paddocks yard in red hot form, has to be high on the shortlist. Every chance that he’ll be bang there from an excellent draw in stall four

Prix de Saint-George (Group 3) 4.05
Sestilio Jet
Third in this race last year behind Ideal Beauty, but showed that at seven he still hasn’t lost his zip when going in at Nimes. That seasonal reappearance run should have him nicely teed up for this. Plenty good enough to win at this level, and sure to be in the mix

Prix Maurice Zilber Fonds Europeen de l’Elevage (Listed) 4.37
Valloria
She finished a 3 length fifth here over course and distance last month, on her seasonal reappearance, so entitled to go closer after that cobweb blower. Her fourth in the Group 3 Prix Du Pin is solid form for this Listed contest and she’s expected to be right on the money here

Naas

Coolmore Stud Calyx Race 1.45
The Antarctic (nap)
Another impressive youngster from Aidan O’Brien’s powerhouse yard, but this one is bred in the purple being a full brother to supersprinter Battaash, the fastest horse around in his prime. The Antarctic beat the re-opposing Wodao on soft ground at Tipperary, for which he carries a penalty, but returned to a faster surface has to be the one to beat. Exciting

Sole Power Sprint Stakes (Listed) 2.15
Logo Hunter
Course and distance winner Logo Hunter should have come on for his first run this term at Cork, and the drop back to the bare five furlongs should suit Michael Browne’s charge, as he prepares for a big day in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot next month. He won this race last year and every chance that he’s improved at four, go close

Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies Sprint Stakes (Group 3) 2.45
Matilda Picotte
Kieran Cotter holds the key to this Group 3 contest with Matilda Picotte, who was so impressive when landing a maiden at The Curragh from the re-opposing Comhra in ready fashion. Any repeat of that puts her right at the head of affairs. Fascinating prospect, easy to back

Owenstown Stud Stakes (Listed) 3.15
Lust
Ger Lyons has his string in fine fettle, and Lust did well to get so close to the smart Raadobarg last time out at Tipperary. This Listed contest looks a little easier than taking on the winner of the Irish Lincolnshire, and he’s very much the one to beat, with the excellent Colin Keane up top just adding to the appeal

Goffs Lacken Stakes (Group 3) 3.45
Straight Answer (nb)
A fascinating rematch between Ger Lyons Straight Answer and Aidan O’Brien’s New York City. The pair clashed swords at Navan in the Committed Stakes last month, with New York City taking the honours by a length. However, that was Straight Answer’s first time out this term, and he did get a tad overheated in the stalls, so is given the chance here to make amends and reverse those placings
