The Mandarin’s Sunday Selections from Deauville

Darley Prix Morny Stakes (Group 1) 2.50
Quick Suzy
Gavin Cromwell’s filly could not have been more impressive in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, scooting clear of American raider Twilight Gleaming in the final furlong. That form has been solidly franked by the runner-up on this track and Quick Suzy looks a cut above her rivals here. With form on soft and at this trip plus her 3lb sex allowance there’s plenty to like

Darley Prix Jean Romanet Stakes (Group 1) 3.25
Lady Bowthorpe (nap)
She only found Europe’s best miler, Palace Pier, too good for her in the Lockinge at Newbury back in May, but now has Group 1 honours herself after landing the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood last month. She’s got form on slower ground so the expected rain shouldn’t be an issue, and William Jarvis’s stable star is the one to follow

Darley Prix de Pomone Stakes (Group 2) 4.00
Raabihah (nb)
Jean-Claude Rouget’s Sea The Stars filly is the key to this race after hitting the bar in all three appearances this term. Judging by the way she finished in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe last year, this step back up to twelve furlongs should see her put this Group 2 to bed on the way to a repeat appearance in France’s top race

Darley Prix Kergorlay Stakes (Group 2) 4.35
Skazino
Skazino should relish this trip around here, having only made an appearance on the all-weather at this track. He’s improved for the step up in trip this season, scoring twice at ParisLongchamp. Ed Walker’s English raider, Red Verdon should be the main threat but might lack the pace these days for this race

De La Forge Stakes 5.10
Nature’s Colors
Andre Fabre’s colt retuned to action at Clairefontaine after a fourteen month break, but won cosily so should be ready to go in again. Varkesha rates the danger but the style of Nature’s Colors win last time out suggests he sets the standard
