The Mandarin’s Sunday Selections from Galway & Chester

Eileen Kelly Memorial Chase 3.05
Mrs Lorna Fowler holds the key to this race with Politesse, who arrives here fresh from a win at Roscommon last month, impressively drawing clear of the field in the Connacht National Handicap Chase. This is a deeper race, but she’s two from four over fences so unexposed compared to quite a few of her rivals here

Lord Hemphill Memorial Handicap Chase 3.40
She was just over two lengths away from a first win of the year in May at Punchestown, having been off the track since running at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival on St Stephen’s Day. Refreshed from that break, which should have blown away some cobwebs, she can improve on her third place in this race last year. Big chance with the irrepressible Rachael Blackmore on board

British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes 2.20
She showed enough on debut under rules at Newmarket to get the nod for this. The Frankel fillies have consistently come to hand earlier than the colts, so it’s worth taking a chance that this drop in grade to a Class 4 contest will get her to the head of affairs. She’s out of stall 2 so can hold the rail. Interesting

Freddie Wilson Queensferry Stakes (Listed) 2.55
Wings Of War (nap)
It may pay to side with Clive Cox’s Wings Of War for this Listed prize. The grey looks a progressive sort that has not reached his ceiling yet after just nine career starts, and gets a reasonable draw from stall 4. He was nearest at the finish last time out at Deauville, and with a more prominent position should go close

Boulton Group EBF Conditions Stakes 4.00
Cold Case (nb)
The Showcasing colt lost his maiden tag at York last month, cosily getting to the front 2 furlongs out and going away from the field from there. He holds some fancy entries for the rest of this season, including the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster and the Two-Year -Old Trophy at Redcar, so this should be a good warm up for those Black Type contests
