The Mandarin’s Sunday Selections from Naas, Lingfield, Huntingdon, Carlisle & Cork

Finale Stakes (Listed) 3.15
Patrick Sarsfield
The class act of this field, though he does need to bounce back from an underwhelming performance in the Group 2 Prix Dollar at the start of the month. Has a good chance to get on the scoreboard for the first time this term, but has his ground and should be too good for the field at this level

Coeur Serein
He won three on the trot over timber back in the spring, and should be race ready for this after appearing in the Grade 2 Persian War Novices’ Hurdle at Chepstow earlier this month. Should have more to offer over fences and has solid each way claims

Blackjack Magic
Jack Barber’s six year old can put his racing experience to good use in this maiden contest, and shaped as though there was a win in him when chasing home the useful looking Pozo Emery at Wincanton back in February. On the premises

Uno Mas (nb)
Christian Williams’ seven year old gelding was given here last week for the opener at Aintree, where he eased clear under Ellis Collier, and he’s hard to oppose for the four-timer dropped in grade, although he runs under a penalty for that easy win. Conditions to suit once more and this looks calmer waters, huge shout

Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase (Listed) 2.00
Espoir De Romay (nap)
He looked a very progressive novice chaser last season for Kim Bailey, winning two of his first three starts, before leading in the Mildmay Novices’ Chase at the Aintree Festival, only to fall two out. Ahoy Senor looks the main danger and trainer Lucinda Russell has brought him here to get his preferred cut in the ground, but Espoir De Romay has to be the one to beat

Paddy’s Rewards Club EBF Novice Hurdle (Listed) 1.50
The Getaway Star
Declan Queally may have the answer here with The Getaway Star, if she gets this trip. It’s a couple of furlongs further than she’s been, but she was pretty impressive at Limerick in the summer and the grey may well have more to offer this season

Paddy Power From The Horses Mouth Podcast EBF Novice Chase (Grade 3) 2.25
Cape Gentleman
Flat bred but good enough over timber to land the Grade 2 Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle at Kempton back in February. Now Emmet Mullins’ charge tries his hand over fences, and won with ease at Punchestown on debut in this discilpline earlier this month. The highly rated Ballyadam was a faller in that race so it would have been interesting to see how Cape Gentleman would have fared against the Henry de Bromhead inmate, and here it is Willie Mullins’ Bleu Berry who is the one to watch, but there could yet be more to come over fences, interesting

Mister Fogpatches
Peter Fahy’s seven year old grey won’t be found wanting for stamina here, so has to be high on the shortlist after a prep run at Listowel last month. He looked to be making progress up to the last until hampered on the run-in to finish fourth at the finish, so will be hoping for a trouble free passage this time around
