The Mandarin’s Sunday Selections from Saint-Cloud & Leopardstown

Saint-Cloud

Prix Greffulhe (Group 2) 1.33
Agave (nap)
Andre Fabre’s hugely exciting filly should continue her progressive profile here. Winning the Group 3 Prix Penelope over course and distance last month under a hands and heels ride, she looks as if there’s plenty more under the bonnet. Respected, and hard to oppose

Prix du Muguet (Group 2) 3.25
Duhail
Duhail was just a length behind smart gelding, The Revenant, here over course and distance in the Prix Edmond Blanc last time out, and considering the favourite was sent off a two to five chance, getting within a length of the winner is solid enough form for this contest. It’s no easy race though, with Sibila Spain and Dilawar lining up, but Duhail is consistent enough around here to get the nod. In the mix

Leopardstown

Cornelscourt Stakes (Group 3)(Fillies) 4.05
History
This looks a race prep for her attempt at taking the 1,000 Guineas in two weeks time. She didn’t have to throw the kitchen sink to win the last day, responding well when challenged round the home turn at Gowran Park. Ryan Moore takes up the reins for this Group 3, so presumed the stable first string, and a big run expected

Derby Trial Stakes (Group 3) 4.35
Atomic Jones (nb)
There’s sure to be plenty of support for Aidan O’Brien’s Stone Age, but Ger Lyons’ Atomic Jones looked to be crying out for this trip at the back end of last season, taking the scalp of Stone Age in the Champions Juvenile Stakes on this track. Plenty to like about the manner of that win, and if he’s trained on, sure to be a threat over this longer distance

Amethyst Stakes (Group 3) 5.05
Real Appeal
Jessica Harrington could take the shine off Aidan O’Brien’s recent run with Real Appeal, who was a model of consistency last season until given a tough shift in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, failing to get any sort of track position from the outside stall. However, this is a tad easier, and despite having to give weight to every other rival, should have his say in the shake-up
